Propelling Connecticut and New England to a cleaner, sustainable future.

In the heart of New England’s rich maritime tradition lies Connecticut’s ambitious endeavor to harness the vast potential of its offshore wind resources. Through the establishment of the Connecticut Wind Collaborative, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Governor Ned Lamont’s vision for a thriving offshore wind industry is becoming a reality.

Charting a Course for Collaboration

Announced last October as a pivotal component of Connecticut’s Offshore Wind Strategic Roadmap, the Connecticut Wind Collaborative stands as a beacon of collaboration. Tasked with galvanizing local and regional stakeholders, this nonprofit entity is poised to catalyze growth, attract investment, and foster innovation across Connecticut and beyond.

Leveraging Legacy:
A Tale of Supply Chain Success

Building upon a foundation of historic collaboration between Connecticut and Rhode Island, rooted in the legacy of U.S. Navy submarine construction, the Connecticut Wind Collaborative aims to elevate supply chain coordination to unprecedented heights. As the Revolution Wind project sets sail, delivering renewable energy to both states, this partnership serves as a blueprint for future success.

Anchoring Growth:
Offshore Wind’s Epicenter

Fueled by a synergy of public investment and private capital, Connecticut and Rhode Island have emerged as the epicenter of offshore wind development in the United States. Facilitated by public-private investment in strategic port infrastructure, including the Port of Providence and Port of New London’s State Pier Terminal, the states and the joint venture of Ørsted and Eversource Energy are charting a course towards a sustainable future.

Empowering Communities:
Building a Skilled Workforce

At the heart of this burgeoning industry lies the dedication of skilled trades workers and businesses. From the completion of the nation’s first utility-scale offshore wind farm, South Fork Wind, to the forthcoming Revolution Wind and Sunrise Wind projects, Connecticut and Rhode Island are nurturing a workforce poised to shape the future of renewable energy.

Navigating Towards a Bright Horizon

Connecticut continues to expand relationships at the state-level with its New England partners. Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts recently entered into an agreement to jointly pursue offshore wind power procurements for a more streamlined, cost-effective process for developers and consumers. Through a recent agreement led by the White House and U.S. Department of Energy, the three states recently agreed to form a New England Partnership Association (also including Maine and New Hampshire), dedicated to strengthening regional supply chain coordination.
